Days after Walter Dalton defended North Carolina’s business climate under the Perdue-Dalton administration, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released new jobs data showing North Carolina lost more jobs from April to May than any other state in the nation.
According to the BLS, North Carolina lost 16,500 jobs, more than 5 times more lost jobs than the second worst state. The state’s unemployment rate remained the worst in the Southeast at 9.4 percent, significantly higher than the national average of 8.2 percent.
“Instead of recognizing there is a jobs crisis in North Carolina, Walter Dalton is defending the Perdue-Dalton administration’s job-stifling, high-tax policies,” said RGA Communications Director Mike Schrimpf. “It’s clear to the thousands of unemployed and underemployed North Carolinians that the status quo isn’t working. Walter Dalton has spent more than a decade in Raleigh and literally hasn’t gotten the job done. It’s time to bring a fresh perspective to the state capitol. Pat McCrory will make job creation his top priority.”
