In her first ad of the cycle, Gretchen Whitmer claims she increased school funding without raising taxes, but that’s far from the full story. The truth is Whitmer has tried to raise taxes several times.

If Whitmer had her way, taxes on fuel would have increased by 173%, on small businesses by 41%, and several state fees would have increased by triple digits.

All the while, Whitmer has refused to deliver tax relief to families facing record gas prices and inflation despite multiple attempts by Republicans in the legislature to do so.

“Gretchen Whitmer appears to be living in a fantasy world where one day she can try and raise taxes and the next she takes credit for Republican accomplishments,” said RGA Spokesman Chris Gustafson. “Whitmer has tried to squeeze every dollar out of Michigan workers and businesses for the past four years and only failed because Republicans have been there to stop her. Michiganders deserve a Republican governor who will fight for them and deliver real relief.”
