WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, 3 vulnerable Democrat governors were part of a group that issued a joint letter to congressional leadership urging them to suspend the federal gas tax, yet all of them proposed at least one state gas tax increase during their terms as Governor and all have supported policies that would hurt their state’s residents at the pump.
In 2019:
- Governor Gretchen Whitmer proposed a 45-cent gas tax increase in her first year,

- Governor Tony Evers proposed an eight-cent gas tax increase in his first budget and proposed bringing back automatic gas tax indexing, and

- Governor Tim Walz proposed a 20-cent gas tax increase.

“Residents of blue states know their governors are no heroes and enjoy raising taxes on working families,” said RGA Communications Director Jesse Hunt. “The recent gas price increases are a direct result of Democrats’ years-long war on American energy production. Before calling on the federal government to ease the burden on hard working Americans, Democrat governors need to look inward and clean up the mess they’ve been making in their own states for years.”
