The Republican Governors Public Policy Committee, an affiliate of the Republican Governors Association, launched an initiative highlighting the destructive impact the federal health care bill would have on state budgets and urging Democratic governors and candidates to speak out against the unfunded mandates in the legislation.
The initiative’s website can be viewed at www.WhatHappensinDC.org and will be accompanied by a major online advertising push. The website will be used in the future to highlight other federal proposals that would adversely impact the states.
“States are confronting budget deficits of historic proportions and the federal health care bill would make the situation exponentially worse,” said RGA communications director Mike Schrimpf. “It’s time for the Democrats to come clean with the taxpayers in their state.”
“Being governor is about leading your state,” Schrimpf said. “These Democrats need to either explain how they’d pay for all the new costs or why they won’t stand up for the taxpayers.”
