Republican Governor Larry Hogan holds a 22-point lead in the Maryland governor’s race over his far-left challenger Ben Jealous, according to a new poll out this morning from Goucher College. The Washington Post is calling it a “commanding” lead for Hogan and reports that Hogan “is consolidating substantial support from groups that traditionally back Democrats in the deep-blue state.”
Hogan is leading Jealous 54% to 32%, and Hogan is currently drawing the support of an astounding 38% of Maryland Democrats.
The Baltimore Sun also notes that in the poll, “Hogan led in every region of the state, including the Democratic stronghold of the Washington suburbs, where 45 percent of respondents preferred him to 40 percent for Jealous.”
One Prince George’s County Democrat says the results show that Ben Jealous’ “message isn’t resonating.” Todd Eberly, a political scientist at St. Mary’s College, says the poll shows that “Larry Hogan is in an incredibly strong position for reelection.”
