At last night’s Connecticut gubernatorial debate, Democrat Ned Lamont continued to defend Failed Governor Dan Malloy’s job-killing tax hikes while Republican Bob Stefanowski took him to task for promising more of the same.
As he has done repeatedly since launching his candidacy, Lamont tried to distort the facts about General Electric’s decision to leave the state, falsely claiming that it wasn’t due to tax hikes, even though GE specifically cited Malloy’s business tax increases as a reason for their departure. Stefanowski quickly fact-checked Lamont, noting that Malloy drove the company out of the state with tax-and-spend policies and how Lamont would lead Connecticut down the same path if elected. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Lamont has made outlandish claims about GE’s departure. In May he was caught on video dismissing their relocation, stating it “wasn’t that many jobs,” only to run an ad months later that called it a “punch to the gut” for Connecticut.
A clear contrast was drawn in last night’s debate. As Ned Lamont defends Dan Malloy’s failed policies while promising more of the same, Bob Stefanowski has a plan to repeal tax hikes, reform government, and put Connecticut back on track.
