In a huge blow to Massachusetts Democrats, the front runner for the Democrat gubernatorial nomination Setti Warren announced today that he will drop out of the governor’s race. After nearly a year on the campaign trail, he failed to catch fire with voters, plagued by low name ID and abysmal fundraising.
In a statement this morning, Warren called the challenge of facing Governor Baker this November “insurmountable,” claiming that the “money just isn’t there to run the kind of campaign I want to run,” with only $52,000 in cash on hand.
“Setti Warren’s decision to exit the race is a huge blow to Massachusetts Democrats,” said RGA Communications Director Jon Thompson. “As their remaining candidates struggle to stand out with anemic fundraising and an inability to connect with voters, Governor Charlie Baker remains in strong position for re-election this November.”
