Even Iowa Democrats Don’t Want Andy McGuire As Governor

The former head of the Iowa Democratic Party Andy McGuire announced her gubernatorial candidacy this morning – but before it even gets off the ground, her fellow Iowa Democrats have already surmised that she has no chance to win.

McGuire has a long reputation as a failed leader, so much so that even members of her own Party slammed her blunders after widespread losses in the state on her watch, blaming her constant disorganization and inability to heal divisions between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders voters.

Prominent Iowa Democrat Danny Homan recently blasted McGuire for her dirty tactics and inexcusable lack of responsibility in his resignation letter:

“I ran for the 1st Vice Chair position to make a difference, but under your leadership as Chair that was not possible.”

“This decision (to resign) was reached from a culmination of frustrations with the direction of the Iowa Democratic Party, first and foremost the lack of unity following the Iowa Caucuses,” Homan wrote in the letter. ‘The division between Sanders and Clinton supporters has driven a wedge that has yet to be repaired.”

McGuire’s astonishing incompetence resulted in an unprecedented divide of the Iowa Democratic Party, and as another prominent Iowa Democrat noted, she is the wrong choice for Iowa Democrats in the gubernatorial election:

“She treated the Bernie Sanders National delegation extremely poorly.  In a state where Bernie and Hillary ended up in a statistical tie, nominating someone who helped sow seeds of division would show that we learned nothing from the 2016 shellacking.  Dr. McGuire also oversaw Iowa turning into a red state.  In 2016, the Democrats only won 6 out of 99 counties.”

“Iowa deserves better.  We cannot repeat the mistakes of 2016 by forcing a flawed candidate upon the voters. We have some excellent candidates for governor.  Dr. McGuire is not one of them.”

If Andy McGuire can’t even win the support of Iowa Democrats after serving as their State Chair, she has no hope of leading the state forward as governor.
