Everyone in NM can legally smoke a joint today after Governor Lujan Grisham previously called a special session to legalize recreational sales of cannabis while refusing to do the same this year to address the state’s violent crime problem.
Even as the Albuquerque Journal reported yesterday that violent crime in ABQ saw its largest spike since 2018, Governor Lujan Grisham still blows off questions from the media about why she is not willing to put in the same work to prevent homicides as she did to legalize marijuana:
“Whether spending taxpayer money on wagyu beef and alcohol while New Mexicans struggled during the pandemic or pushing marijuana legalization instead of fixes to the state’s violent crime problem, Michelle Lujan Grisham’s priorities always remain misguided,” said RGA spokesman Will Reinert. “Albuquerque’s Police Chief already placed the blame for the spike in violent crime directly on politicians, like Governor Lujan Grisham, for allowing ‘a revolving door in the criminal justice system,‘ yet she won’t lift a finger to keep families safe.”
