🚨 Need to Know Before Kansas Gubernatorial Debate

The first Kansas gubernatorial debate is taking place today at the Kansas State Fair. The debate starts at 10:30am CT and will be streamed on WIBW radio here. It’s one of only two debates as Democrat Laura Kelly has turned down invitations from the NAACP and other media outlets.

Two news items you may have missed yesterday that you need to know before today’s debate:

  • Kelly was caught in an audio recording doubling down on her record-setting number of vetoes and begging voters to send more Democrats loyal to her to the legislature to sustain them – promising even more obstruction if elected to a second term.
  • Republican candidate Derek Schmidt was endorsed by the Kansas Chamber of Commerce as the “best choice for business.” The endorsement comes after both candidates spoke at the Chamber’s candidate forum, and Kelly said she would “make absolutely no apologies” for her restrictive policies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Democrat Laura Kelly’s platform for a second term appears to be more obstruction in the legislature and an unapologetic refusal to say she will never shut down schools or businesses again,” said RGA spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez. “The contrast between her and Republican Derek Schmidt couldn’t be more clear. Schmidt has a plan for a better Kansas, while Kelly’s running to ensure radicals in schools, higher taxes, and increased costs of living as she continues to look the other way on Joe Biden’s inflationary spending.”
