Sue Minter Goes All-In For Tax Hikes On Vermont Families and Businesses

Political insider Sue Minter is doubling down on her support for increasing taxes on Vermont families, businesses, and consumers. In a recent interview, Minter revealed her support for tax hikes on more than 160 services – which would increase costs for services ranging from child care to haircuts, and will hurt the state’s struggling economy, drive away business, and take money out of the pockets of the hardworking people of Vermont.

In response to a question on if she would raise taxes if elected governor, Minter expressed her support for the Blue Ribbon Tax Commission report, which recommended “expanding the state sales and use tax to cover services as well as goods — everything from paying legal fees to putting your child in day care, to plumbing and home repair, to getting a haircut would be subject to the sales tax.”

Sue Minter’s self-proclaimed goal is to expand the tax base, something that will only lead to a higher tax burden for the people of Vermont.

“I’m interested in going back to the program we had after the Blue Ribbon Tax Commission that looked at what can we really do to lower rates by expanding the base. That would be my goal.” (Open Mike with Mike Smith, Gubernatorial Debate with Sue Minter, WDEV News, 9/15/16).

Voters are craving a new direction in Montpelier, but under Sue Minter, they would only see more failed policies of the past.
