States With GOP Governors Dominate Economic Outlook Ranking

The American Legislative Exchange Council released its annual Rich States, Poor States report this week, which ranks all 50 states on economic growth potential based on each state’s fiscal shape and the legislation it enacts to strengthen its economic policies. In its latest rankings of the Best Economic Outlook for 2015, every state in the top 10 is led by a Republican governor.

The number of Republican governors is at a 16-year high of 31 because they have done what they said they would do: make their states strong engines of economic growth. The voters want to see conservative outcomes succeed. The pro-jobs, pro-growth policies that Republican governors champion work, and the results are clear.

From ALEC:

“Utah again earns the top spot for states with the best economic outlook, followed by North Dakota, Indiana, North Carolina and Arizona, according to the newest edition of Rich States, Poor States released today by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). The report also revealed many states significantly improved or fell in the rankings. Illinois came in second for largest improvements by climbing eight spots, while Oklahoma improved by five spots and Wisconsin by four spots.”

“The big story this year is the bipartisan embrace of state tax cuts,’ said Jonathan Williams, Vice President of the ALEC Center for State Fiscal Reform and co-author of Rich States, Poor States: ALEC-Laffer State Economic Competitiveness Index. ‘States are increasingly realizing the need to become more competitive through fiscal responsibility and free market economic reforms. We anticipate 2015 will be a record year for pro-growth tax reform.”
