RGA Announces Paul Bennecke as Executive Director

WASHINGTON D.C. – The Republican Governors Association announced today that Paul Bennecke has been hired as its next Executive Director.

Bennecke is no stranger to the organization, having previously served as the RGA’s Political Director and Deputy Executive Director from 2007-2010, overseeing its political operations during a time when the RGA increased the number of Republican governors from 22 to 29.  Paul was also instrumental in the RGA’s success in 2014, managing the committee’s independent expenditures in Massachusetts, Kansas, and Georgia – helping secure important victories in three highly competitive and hard-fought states.

“Paul has had deep experience and great success winning governor’s races. He is one of our Party’s best political strategists, and the RGA is fortunate to have such a bright and talented individual helping lead the organization,” said RGA Chairman Bill Haslam. “Paul’s political savvy and expertise made him the best choice to serve as the RGA’s new Executive Director, and I have no doubt he will be an important and crucial asset to our governors and candidates.”

Bennecke will succeed outgoing RGA Executive Director Phil Cox, who has served in that position since 2011. Under Cox, the RGA increased its total to 31 Republican governors, the most for either Party in 16 years, and raised over $250 million.

“A large portion of the RGA’s success over the past eight years is directly attributable to Paul’s hard work and sound judgment,” said Cox. “With Paul at the helm, the RGA will continue to be the best run political organization in the country and ensure Republican governors and candidates are in strong position for victory going forward.”
