RGA Announces $9 Million Raised, $31 Million Cash on Hand

The Republican Governors Association announced today that it received contributions totaling $9.04 million in the first quarter of 2010 and holds $31.2 million cash-on-hand.

“The smart money is with the RGA this year,” said RGA executive director Nick Ayers. “We are receiving a record number of donations from supporters at all levels because they are confident in our strategy and know we will win back a majority of governorships this November.”

The Democratic Governors Association reported raising $8 million and has $22 million cash-on-hand. The RGA has widened its financial advantage over the DGA by $1.5 million in the three months since the last reporting deadline.

“The fact that we already have $9 million more to spend than the DGA ought to frighten a lot of Democratic candidates for governor,” Ayers said. “All they have to do is ask Jon Corzine or Creigh Deeds what happens when we engage in a race.”

“Thanks to our fundraising momentum, we will be able to target a record number of races this year,” Ayers concluded.
