Republican Governors Urge Swift Confirmation of Governor Doug Burgum to Serve as Secretary of the Department of the Interior

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican governors joined together today to urge the swift confirmation of their colleague, Governor Doug Burgum, to serve as Secretary of the Department of the Interior.

In a letter to the leadership of the U.S. Senate, the governors wrote:

“We write today, with urgency, requesting a swift confirmation of Governor Doug Burgum to serve as the next Secretary of the Department of the Interior.  Burgum’s exemplary leadership as Governor of North Dakota allowed the state to thrive economically and he possesses a deep understanding of the challenges facing our nation.

“We have absolute confidence in Governor Burgum’s ability to solve complex problems, maximize responsible use of America’s natural resources, and promote innovation over regulation to achieve energy dominance. During his time in North Dakota’s executive office, Governor Burgum leveraged his small-town upbringing and collaborative style to earn great victories for the state that he will replicate at the federal level: becoming a national leader in energy production, significantly reducing red tape regulations, and focusing on state-tribal relations.

“These qualities will serve him well at the Department of the Interior, where Governor Burgum will also bring his experience as both Governor and Chairman of the North Dakota Land Board for bringing together a wide variety of stakeholders to find mutual understanding and compromise.

“The Biden Administration installed unreasonable federal overreaches that resulted in punishingly high costs on American taxpayers. We have worked with Governor Burgum during his time as Governor of North Dakota and know firsthand his dedication to this country and deep knowledge of its land and natural resources. We urge you to swiftly confirm Governor Doug Burgum, President Trump’s visionary selection for Secretary of the Interior, who will bring innovative solutions, common sense, and creative problem-solving to the agency.”
