RGA Raises Over $17 Million In Second Quarter of 2016

WASHINGTON D.C. – The Republican Governors Association announced today $17.3 million raised in the second quarter of 2016, producing a fundraising total for the year of $30.1 million, and the total for the 2015-2016 cycle so far to $75.2 million. The RGA also announced over $44 million cash on hand as of June 30 across all entities, setting a record for the strongest cash on hand total for the first 6 months of a Presidential election year. These crucial resources give the RGA the ability to continue on offense in 12 gubernatorial elections this year, and builds a solid foundation for 2018, when 36 governorships will be up for election, including over 20 open seats.

Out of the 12 gubernatorial elections in 2016, Democrats are facing five open seat contests while Republicans are only facing one. With the large majority of party flips in governorships occurring during open seat contests, the RGA is well positioned to compete, win and expand the majority of Republican governors this November.

“Thanks to the effort and hard work of all 31 Republican governors, the RGA is in strong position to increase our majority this fall and ensure key states elect a Republican governor,” said RGA Chair Governor Susana Martinez. “The RGA’s fundraising success is a direct result of the transformational leadership provided by Republican governors across the country, and a testament to their commitment that the RGA continue to be the most effective political organization in America.”

“With a favorable political map and the resources to compete, the RGA is well prepared to make a major impact on this year’s gubernatorial elections, defend our incumbents and expand our majority,” said RGA Executive Director Paul Bennecke. “Labor Unions and Democrats are spending millions to target Republican governors because they understand their states are achieving meaningful results using conservative policies. With these resources, the RGA will be able to counter the attacks and ensure our governors can continue to drive economic success and government reform in their states.”

The RGA has made over $7 million in political expenditures thus far in 2016, including television ads, digital ads, and direct contributions.
