RGA Announces New Senior Staff Hires

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Republican Governors Association announced today the addition of two new senior staff hires, Janel Broderick and Brian Sanderson. In their new roles, they will help lead and drive the success of the Republican Governors Public Policy Committee (RGPPC), the 501c4 policy group affiliated with the RGA.

“Janel and Brian both have established a strong record of success in their previous roles working for Republican governors and I’m proud they are bringing that knowledge and success to the RGA,” said RGA Chairman Governor Bill Haslam. “Janel and Brian will be key assets in supporting Republican governors and assisting them in developing conservative policy for their states.”

Janel Broderick: RGA/RGPPC Policy Director

Janel previously served as New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez’s policy director, a position she held after working as the deputy executive director of the state’s Republican Party. She also worked for one of the longest-serving members of Congress, Alaska Senator Ted Stevens and advanced the legislative and policy agenda of Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle. Janel is a native Alaskan; she earned a BA from the University of Southern Mississippi, an MA from Indiana University, and spent several years in the non-profit sector throughout India, the South Pacific, Asia, and Russia. She looks forward to drawing on her public policy and political experience to support Republican governors across the country.

Brian Sanderson: General Counsel to the RGPPC and Senior Adviser to the RGA/RGPPC

Brian brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as policy director for the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) and its 501c4 The Rule of Law Defense Fund.  Brian also worked for Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour as deputy director of the Governor’s Office of Recovery & Renewal, and in private law practice for eight years. He was named an alternate delegate to the RNC Convention in 2012, was elected to two, four-year terms on the Mississippi Republican Executive Committee, and was selected as national finalist for the White House Fellows Program. He received his B.B.A, cum laude, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi. There he was elected president of the Law School Student Body, a member of the Mississippi Law Journal and University’s Hall of Fame.  He served as managing editor of the Journal of National Security Law during law school and, following graduation, as a law clerk to the Honorable David Bramlette, U.S. District Court Judge, Southern District of Mississippi.

Outgoing RGA/RGPPC Policy Director Marie Sanderson, who served for the past five years, is launching Cardinal Group Policy, a public policy firm, and is joining 50 State LLC as a partner.
