Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant: Republican Governors Are Getting America Running Again

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Republican Governors Association today launched the next video of the American Comeback project, a national advertising effort designed to tell the success stories and accomplishments of Republican governors.

Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant is featured in this week’s American Comeback video. Growing up repairing old cars with his father, Governor Bryant learned early on the importance of tackling the difficult tasks in front of him. Under Governor Bryant’s leadership, Mississippi’s unemployment rate is dropping, its industries are growing, and the state’s economy is at full throttle.

“Some here in Washington were saying, ‘Mississippi’s an old jalopy and you’ll never get it running again,’” said Governor Bryant. “Someone asked me about that one day. They said, ‘How do you intend to drive Mississippi?’ And I said, ‘Full throttle. We are going full throttle.’”

“When I came into office, we were about 10.6 [percent] unemployment. We’ve dropped that,” said Governor Bryant. “We’ve created over 10,000 jobs in the past two years just with our economic development efforts alone. People said you couldn’t do that. We reached a hundred billion dollars GDP in Mississippi for the first time in history.”

“Washington needs to get out of our way, let us go to work, and we’ll bring this country to where it should be:  the greatest democracy this world has ever known,” said Governor Bryant. “Answers are not coming from Washington. Republican governors are driving the comeback of this nation.”

The American Comeback project will grow to include more videos focused on individual Republican governors, their personal journeys and the progress they’ve made toward bringing prosperity to their states.
