Gov. Heineman Statement on so-called Reid-Nelson amendment

Gov. Dave Heineman today made the following comment regarding Sen. Ben Nelson’s statements on the so-called Reid-Nelson amendment:

“Nebraskans did not ask for a special deal, only a fair deal. Under no circumstances did I have anything to do with Senator Nelson’s compromise. I, along with Governors all across America, have expressed concern about the unfunded Medicaid mandate. I have said all along that this bill is bad news for Nebraska and bad news for America. Additionally, I criticized Senator Reid when he got a special deal for Nevada that didn’t apply uniformly to all states. Senator Nelson negotiated this special deal, rather than a fair deal for both Nebraska and America.”

Governor, we ALL know that you had nothing to do with this. Today that weasel said he would request that this portion of the bill be withdrawn if YOU request it. He is now hiding behind you. He has brought shame to our state while ignoring his constituents. The man needs to be recalled. There is alot of discussion right now on what we would have to do to recall him, ie. amend the NE constitution. Many of us have also written to Senator Johanns requesting that he begin the expulsion process. We may not be able to accomplish these things, but we want to send a strong message to our “Senator” that we will not stand by while he shames our state. Please know, we hold you responsible for none of this. You are and remain a very popular governor with us.

    Governor,
I live in the so-called Peoples Republic of Massachusetts am sure that our local politicians are in lock step with Senator Nelson on his Cornhusker Compromise. We have an opportunity to elect a Republican senator January 19th. Wish us luck and I pray that the good citizens of NE will bury Senator Nelson’s deal never to resurface.
